Dear Voter:

What a great victory!  Thank you for your help, support, and advice throughout this campaign!  I promise to continue to provide “Leadership --- You Can Trust” with honesty, hard work, and common sense.

The election of Senator Barack Obama as the 44^th President of the United States begins a new chapter in our nation’s history.  President-Elect Obama carried the First Congressional District by approximately 1,500 votes!  The Michigan Congressional House delegation is now 8-7 with the addition of Congressmen Mark Schauer and Gary Peters!  In the State House, Democrats picked up 9 seats including the 108^th District with the election of Judy Nerat from Menominee County, the first woman ever elected to represent the 108^th District! 

Now is a time of great challenges which our great country has not experienced since the 1932 election of FDR.  Our nation is in a deep recession, unemployment is greater than 6.5% nationwide, we are facing record home foreclosures, consumer confidence is at an all time low, and our brave servicemen and women are fighting two wars with no end in sight. 

While daunting challenges lay ahead of us, we have much to be proud of!  A record number of Americans went to the polls to cast their ballots!  Your participation in this historic election said “Yes We Can”!  We will face our challenges together!

Confronting our economic crisis, energy independence, health care, and ending the wars will require the sacrifice of all Americans.  Together, we will face these challenges head on!

I have faith in our government, our democracy, and the American people. I will continue to seek your advice, patience, thoughts, and prayers as we work together to meet our challenges each and every day.
